Brooklyn’s own Magnetic Island self-titled debut full-length is set for self-release on January 17th. On the album, Magnetic Island have perfected the 90stalgic sounds they were creating as RENMINBI.
This right here is our favorite track off the new LP. It may put you in a trance.
You can download another track from Magnetic Island via the latest Verbal Rocket mixtape, and you can stream two additional new tracks via the always awesome QRO Mag.
You can preorder Magnetic Island @ magneticisland.bandcamp.com (and make sure you check out all the different options).
We are excited to premiere a track by electronic / psychedelic / abstract hip hop producer and circuit bent visual artist Big Pauper. This is side one, track one off his brilliant new LP, Beyond My Means. Listen.
q: What piece(s) of culture are you really really excited about right now?
a: I have developed a mild fascination with Matthew Lesko and his online presence. I can’t get enough of his infomercials, especially Tax Rap & that disturbing Gotta Get Your Money one where he just randomly starts beating a man. Something got tragically lost in execution on that one. That man is one of the most significant visual/performance artists of our time whether or not he realizes it. I think he does.
q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?
a: Man, where to start. I recently created a collection of VSTs based on the world-renowned circuit bent instruments of my Folktek cohorts. I’m getting ready to tour Europe with a live a/v performance I cooked up. I’m filming a sixty minute collection of short films at my place of employment (unbeknownst to my employer). I also recently purchased a vinyl lathe I plan on restoring. New albums, new collaborations, made a banana bread a minute ago I want to go eat. Nice chatting with you folks, thanks for your support.
Sara Magenheimer and Eben Portnoy are WOOM. The duo is following up their debut album, Muu’s Way with a free remix EP on Ba Da Bing Records. The Muu’s Way Remixed EP will be available for download next Tuesday via eMusic. We are super excited to have the first track from said EP to hit the internets. Here is BJ Warshaw (of Parts & Labor fame) remixing under his solo proj moniker Shooting Spires. This quite literally figuratively destroys. Listen.
