Here is some footage from the time I finally got to see Foot Village perform live. There were a few brains melted that day. Also fingers were cut. Thanks to Smashing Chair for the video.
You know that time I saw Foot Village? Well, it just so happens that I missed seeing Mae Shi offshoot Signals who played later that day. Needless to say, I was pissed. Anyway, grab their Supple Youth Mixtape… here.
Bird & Whale (a purveyor of fine mixes) is curated by one Brad Loving. Well, Mr. Loving is getting ready to release an album entitled Onze Pedras under the moniker Lobisomem (Portuguese for werewolf, fyi). The album comes out on Sept 14, 2010 via the Tall Corn label and features a crazy melange of electronic and other musical styles. Listen.
The Horses new album, Fifteen comes out next week (August 24th) via the HoZac label. You can stream the whole thing right now at the HoZac SoundCloud or via the widget below.

So, MICROPHONIES have a new album called TTTIIIMMMEEEKKKIIILLLSSS. The LP is pressed on 180 gram bologna-colored vinyl and can be ordered from Track Number… here or here.
Oh and right here we have a song off said bologna-colored album. Listen.
Did you know that Brian Miller of Foot Village has a side project. It is called Back To The Future The Ride, and consists of “super mellow drone music inspired by the cold tech-capitalist 80s.”
This here video was created by Angie Meng, along with Miller and Margot Padilla. The tagline for the video is: Shot on a distant, oceanic planet. Returned to earth via a wormhole in my cat’s eye. Watch it.
The song will be available on cassette from Accidie Records in the near future. Furthermore, in a move that may be described as “too perfect”, BTTFTR is reportedly planning a tour with none other than Universal Studios Florida (the band, not the theme park).
You can download BTTFTR’s free back to back to the future the ride EP over at Deathbomb Arc.
BTTFTR was also on the recent Summer Compilation 2010: An Empire of Fun brought to you by the good folks over at SOLID MELTS. Download it for free… here.
I missed this Love of Diagrams video when it was posted back in March. I found it recently while checking out their trippy video for Forever (youtube). You can purchase their album digitally through (uggh) iTunes or physically through Unstable Ape or directly from the band (both are in Australia, FYI). Watch.
Here is the latest video from Small Black. You can purchase their EP through SC Distribution. These guys are touring with Beach Fossils this July. Get ready.
Here We Go Magic’s latest LP, Pigeons comes out on June 8th via Secretly Canadian. This song has been floating around the internets for a while and now there is a video for it. Watch.
Sometimes life feels like you are stuck in an animated gif. No? Anyway, seeing this video also reminds me that I need to pick up the latest effort from Thee Oh Sees. It is called Warm Slime. You can get Warm Slime @ Amazon or directly from In The Red. Please note, this song is off last year’s excellent Help LP which can also be purchased @ Amazon or the aforementioned In The Red.
When I think of Canadian post-vocal indie rock, I think of one band and one band only, Holy Fuck. You should totally purchase their new album, Latin @ Beggars.
WARNING: If you watch this Harlem video, the song will get stuck in your head, and you will be singing it all day long, but you probably won’t mind. Get their excellent new album @ the matastore.
Finally, we have this eyebally new video by post-Harlem Shakes proj, ARMS. This video will make you think of REM, but not the band. Download some ARMS at their official web presence.
Archers is an indie rock band out of PDX. What can I say? I can’t stop listening to their demo. I love the way the vocals and guitar vie for attention in this song. Listen…
I just realized I haven’t blogged about my Record Store Day experience yet. I made some time to check out Sound Fix in Williamsburg. Unfortunately, all the RSD goodies were gone by the time I got there. So what did I get? Nothing all that “out there.” In fact, I really didn’t take any chances at all (yes, frequent visitors to this blog probably already have all the mp3s below). Previously on RSD, I would purchase used CDs of albums I had not heard (e.g. Zs, Blues Control). This time I went for the vinyl of albums where I already had the digital. And guess what, they are all awesome. My purchases follow…
Truthfully though, when you are obsessed with music, any day can turn into “record store day.” So, go to your local independent record store today. Clicking through mp3 aggregators and/or blogs is just not the same a flipping through stacks of LPs. Music can be more than zeros and ones, listening to a little vinyl will remind you of that fact.
However, if you really really do not feel like going to a record store you can of course order one of the above records by clicking on the purchase link provided.
