So this post contains (pretty much) all of my favorite mp3s from 2009. I have not put them in any sort of preferential order. These are sorted by artist in alphabetical order.

Little Girls a/k/a Josh McIntyre’s new album Concepts came out one week ago. According to pr materials, the album was recorded “at night in a home studio.” It definitely sounds like that. So, I was able to catch Browns’ show at the narrow slice of venue that is Bruar Falls. A part of Northside Fest, the show was at 3pm on a Sunday. It was not crowded. The Coney Island was delicious. There was a projection of Flash Gordon playing behind the band (which you cannot make out in my shitty photo below). The music was loud, but not too loud. I was pissed that I had missed them play at that Obits show a while back. This totally made up for it. I’ll just say it: Browns Rock.

The band was giving out cassette tape compilations with songs by themselves, Air Waves and The Sundelles. Maybe I will digitize it at some point in the future, until then the music on tape will be relegated to occasional boombox listens.

If you like Blank Dogs and/or post-backlash pre-meltdown Wavves (and let’s not mention Joy Division or Cabaret Voltaire), then you should prolly get some Torontoindiefuzz from Little Girls. Their Tambourine EP was released by Paper Bag Records earlier this week. The band plans to release two more EPs before the end of the year.

Now you may ask yourself… “Another band with ‘Girls’ in their name, how I am supposed to keep track of this indie band name trend”?? This post may help.

Also, I have it on good authority that that Little Girls is the offshoot of the distortedeverythingduo known as Pirate/Rock whom I had not heard of until now. Maybe they are your favorite new band? I hear they have an EP in the works.
