q: What is your favorite venue in NYC (if applicable)?

a: I really liked the Bell House.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: I’ve got a new full-length coming in a few months. It was recorded in the wood-shack behind my house so I had more room to do real instruments… the end result is a less electronic sounding LP than Seek Magic. People seem to think everything I do is all samples but that’s not how I work. I’m excited for it to finally come out.

Here are few Memory Tapes tracks plus bunch of remixes for your downloading pleasure.

Downloadables:
Today Is Our Life (mp3)
Pretend the Devil Isn’t Real (mp3)
Bicycle (mp3)
Running Out Of You (Memory Tapes Version) (mp3) by Keep Shelly in Athens
Suffocation (Memory Tapes Remix) (mp3) by Crystal Castles
Havai (Memory Tapes Rework) by Babe, Terror
Excuse Me (Memory Tapes Remix) (mp3) by Gucci Mane (free album)
Imma G (Memory Tapes remix) (mp3) by Dem Getaway Boyz (free album)

Remember, you can (and let’s face it probably should) pick up a copy of Seek Magic @ acephale.bigcartel.com or insound.com.

q and also a :: Susu

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Andrea from Susu sent us these answers to the questions in our ongoing series, q and also a.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

a: Private Idaho by The B-52′s

Stream: Private Idaho (lala link)

Watch: Private Idaho (youtube)

q: What is your favorite food?

a: Pork tacos, the best I’ve ever had were found in Panama City on a little corner in La Casona. There were a lot of cats. Oliver loves his lasagna.

q: What is your favorite band to see live?

a: Like, ever? I don’t really have one band in particular that I feel compelled to see over and over again (even though there are plenty that I do).. But some of the best shows I went to last year would include Deerhoof, Grizzly Bear, Elvis Perkins in Dearland (his voice gave me chills!), and Akron/Family. As far as more local bands I love watching Talibam!, Aa, Gray Goods, Naked Hearts!

Listen:
+ 81 (mp3) by Deerhoof
Cheerleader (mp3) by Grizzly Bear
Slow Doomsday (mp3) by Elvis Perkins in Dearland
Woody Guthrie’s America (mp3) by Akron/Family
Untitled 1 & Untitled 2 (mp3s) by Talibam!
Flag Day (mp3) by Aa
Closet Trash (mp3) by Gray Goods
No One Nothing (mp3) by Naked Hearts

q: What is your favorite venue in NYC (if applicable)?

a: As far as Manhattan it would be Cake Shop.

q: OK, President Obama appoints you as the first Secretary of Culture, to whom do you give your first grant?

a: I’d love to see it be given to an organization for children or youth who are musically inclined.. I know there are a few out there that try and provide musical instruction and instruments. It would be cool to do a really intensive project with kids who might not have the opportunity to otherwise.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: We self-released a record February 2nd. It’s our third release and first release simultaneously… Third because we have done a full length and an EP before, but first because we had no idea what we were doing our first release. Everything was done in little pockets of time. The EP was picked up by eMusic Selects and contains songs from our first S/T and three songs we did for a vinyl. So this feels like our most cohesive musical statement.. Everything was done in one solid block of time, writing, the recording.. We are very happy with it.

Here are a couple tracks from Susu’s new album R and R and R.
