mp3 :: The Sundelles > Kiss The Coast

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

The Sundelles quite recently finished recording their first full length album. They were working with Mr. Tony Maimone (of Pere Ubu fame) at Studio G in Brooklyn. The band says it’s “totally a step in a new direction, fidelity wise, but its still true to our writing style.” The name of the album is Georgia Swan, and right now there are no definite plans to put the album out as the band is looking for a label to give it a proper release. The sound on the LP is definitely poppier and less fuzzy than their last recording, but I am going to bet that it slays live. We are very glad to post a track from Georgia Swan right now. Listen.

Downloadable: Kiss The Coast (mp3)

q and also a :: The Soft Pack

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The next band in our continuing q and also a series is The Soft Pack. The drummer, Brian sent us these answers.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

a: Freak Train (mp3) by Kurt Vile was the last song I really listened to intently. Something about that shiny guitar and the slow-train tempo on that snare got my blood all hot and sticky.

q: What is your favorite food?

a: Mexican food from San Diego–it can’t be beat.

q: What is your favorite band to see live?

a: Abe Vigoda or Obits. It’s a toss up because both bands blow me away.

Listen:
Dead City/Waste Wilderness (mp3) by Abe Vigoda
Two-Headed Coin (mp3) by Obits

q: What is your favorite venue in NYC (if applicable)?

a: The Bowery Ballroom for a few reasons: 1) it sounds great, 2) the people working there are the shit, 3) it feels classy, so I feel classy.

q: OK, President Obama appoints you as the first Secretary of Culture, to whom do you give your first grant?

a: Ariel Pink, Bruce LaBruce (technically a Canadian though), and Brontez Purnell (great essay in BUTT mag).

Listen: Alisa (mp3) by Ariel Pink

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: The Soft Pack a new album came out February 2nd, and now we tour for the rest of eternity.

Here are a couple tracks from The Soft Pack’s latest self-titled LP.

Listen:
C’mon (mp3)
Answer To Yourself (mp3)

Here are a couple tracks from The Soft Pack’s (formerly eponymous) LP, The Muslims.

Call It A Day (mp3)
Extinction (mp3)

Friday Night Vids :: Spoon + Archie Bronson Outfit + The Soft Pack + Strange Boys + Eluvium

Friday, February 12th, 2010

This is still my fav track from the new Spoon album, Transference. The band keeps it classy in black and white.

What’s with the shots of screaming 60′s-style youth in this video? I’m not quite sure, but I dig the look and feel of this vid.

The Strange Boys appear to be continuing the so-called flowerpunk revolution… now featuring the sax playing of former Mika Miko member Jenna E. Thornhill deWitt.
