q and also a :: No Joy

Noise poppers No Joy sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of our q and also a series.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

a: I’m listening to the album Doppelgänger by Curve on repeat these days, another song that I can’t get enough of Lower Dens‘ “I Get Nervous”.

Listen:

I Get Nervous (mp3) by Lower Dens

q: What is your favorite beverage?

a: Hot Toddys have been keeping me warm this winter, also a big fan of dirty martinis.

q: What is your favorite band to see live?

a: I don’t think I could ever get tired of watching A Place To Bury Strangers

Listen:
To Fix The Gash In Your Head (mp3)
Ocean (mp3)
In Your Heart (mp3)

Watch: Deadbeat (Live @ DBA) (youtube)

q: What is your favorite venue in NYC (if applicable)?

a: We’re all big fans of Shea Stadium in Brooklyn, where we played our first NY show. Also, Death By Audio is an amazing space where we actually got to play with APTBS which was one of my favourite times seeing them, win-win.

q: What piece(s) of culture are you really really excited about right now?

a: 2010 was a really great year for music, I think we needed a revival of some sort cause the indie rock of the mid 2000’s was tired and boring. Granted there are a lot of new genres coming out, (what is “witch house“?) that might not warrant too much attention, I think there’s a few gems that are going to stick around and lead to more interesting bands. Other than that I’m really excited about the new Jonathan Franzen novel and Flavor of Love season 3.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: We’ve been touring constantly since our album came out so we haven’t had much time to work on anything, but we’ve been conceptualizing our next record and putting a lot of ideas together. The goal is basically to make it as unlistenable as possible, drawing from early UK dance and tribal beats, mixed with some goth, punk, psychedelic sounds and a lot of noise. We’ve also been trying to figure out how to use these two projectors we have to create an equally weird mix of visuals. We’re excited to get started on this.
