q and also a :: I IM EYE MY

Al Creedon (Bleeding Rainbow) and Sean Hamilton (Spacin’) collectively are I IM EYE MY. They sent us these answers to questions in this next q and also a.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

Al: There is a kid on my block who recently discovered Bon Jovi and he rides his bike up and down the street belting out Livin’ on a Prayer. The first few times I heard him I cringed, but now I think his enthusiasm is rubbing off on me. Hearing this kids pitchy rendition of an 80’s pop hair-metal hit made me happy for him and made me want find and make music that I can be that enthusiastic about too.

Sean: Dark Fantasy by Kanye (played on piano by a guy on youtube)

q: What is your most common reaction to hearing your own music?

a: When I hear our recordings I’m reminded of everything that I wish we did differently. Thats why playing live is important to us right now because it allows us a chance to try out some of those ideas.

s: We record all of our music before ever playing it live and therefor hear it like a million times as we slowly add and change things until the song is “complete”. So often our reaction might be something like “hmm this part is way too long” or “this could use a guitar solo here” or whatever.

q: What is your favorite artist/band to see live?

a: Profligate, Priests, Rhys Chatham.

s: Nick Cave, Dope Body, Boredoms, Greg Fox, Spiritualized.

q: What is your favorite venue (in NYC, if applicable)?

a: Death By Audio has a special place in my heart. Edan always treated bands well and I can honestly say that I played some of the most fun shows of my life within those walls. Generally speaking, I don’t like overly sentimental people, so It bothers me how much I’m bothered by DBA closing. I’m really going to miss that place.

s: Best place ive played in ny is old silent barn? Glasslands is cool. The worst venue is probably lit, we just had about the worst show experience ever there. My fav venue in philly is probably rotunda.

q: What piece(s) of culture are you really really excited about right now?

a: I’m not too thrilled about any specific piece of culture right now, however, I am really curious about where the continued fragmentation of sub-genres will lead. Will everything eventually bleed into each other forming one mono-genre? Or are we collectively on the cusp of discovering new musical languages?

s: The scene that is going on in Boston right now is really solid. There is a group of people running all these different entities like blogs, show collectives, house venues, newsletters, record labels and they are all connected and there seem to be good shows happening almost every night and people seem to be very chill and supportive of each other. In Philly there has been a cool movement of people doing weird performance art/comedy. We are also gearing up for this year’s mummer’s parade.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: West coast tour happening now, then a live film score this winter in Philly.

s: live scoring a film in Philadelphia this winter
