q and also a :: SUPER THIEF

SUPER THIEF of Austin, TX sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of q and also a.

[SUPER THIEF is Jordan (Bass), Jay (Drums), Cody (Vox/Guitar), and Ted (Guitar).]

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

jordan: “Tops Drop” by Fat Pat

jay: “Burnin’ For You” by Blue Oyster Cult

cody: “Fractured (Like Chandeliers)” by Polvo

ted: “Leglock” by Shakewell

q: What is the first album you remember purchasing?

jordan: ‘Beyond’ by Dinosaur Jr.

jay: ‘…and Justice for All’ by Metallica

cody: ‘Astro Lounge’ by Smash Mouth

ted: ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day

q: What is the last album that you purchased?

jordan: ‘Stankonia’ by OutKast

jay: ‘Veteran’ by JPEGMAFIA

ted: ‘Locust Abortion Technician’ by Butthole Surfers

cody: “The Official Body” by Shopping

q: What is your favorite memory of experiencing music in a live setting?

cody: Jay and I saw The Breeders on New Years Eve several years ago. We booked a show a couple days before so we could make enough money to buy the tickets. We knew they would play all of ‘Last Splash,’ but they opened the show by playing all of ‘Pod’ too. Easily one of my favorite shows of all time.

jordan: There’s quite a few Austin bands that I’ll always be glad to have seen live (Spray Paint, Ghetto Ghouls, White Bronco, many others) and would say those local shows are some of my favorite memories of music in a live setting. Also saw Dwight Yoakam play awhile back, which was cool.

q: What are the best and worst things about being in a band in Austin, TX circa 2018?

jordan: Best thing is that it’s Austin, so it’s pretty easy to play shows and such. The worst part is the rising rent and continual slow death of music venues due to the “growth and development” of the city.

jay: The best and worst part is that there are so many other good bands. There is competition, but it makes you write you best stuff.

cody: Trying to tour out of Texas is hard because of all the driving, but there are a lot of opportunities in Austin for bands to play live and get better quickly.

q: What piece(s) of culture are you really really excited about right now (if any)?

cody: I just moved out of the city of Austin to the town of Lockhart, TX. I am really excited to see the growth of small towns in TX and across the country and how it affects popular culture. I am also really excited to vote for Beto this Fall and hopefully turn Texas blue.

jay: My Nintendo switch.

q: What should we know about ‘eating alone in my car’?

jordan: We had fun making the record.

jay: And we recorded it in one day!

cody: This was definitely the most fun we’ve had in the studio making a record.
