African Head Charge is a collaboration between Jamaican percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and English dub producer Adrian Sherwood (along with a revolving group of guest players). Sherwood’s label On-U Sound is putting out a companion set to Environmental Holes & Drastic Tracks 1981-1986 which explored the project’s early years.
The new compilation, Drumming Is A Language 1990-2011 looks at the group’s later years. The compilation features the album Songs Of Praise, plus three more studio albums. It also contains outtakes from the the Songs Of Praise and In Pursuit Of Shashamane Land albums, compiled by On-U archivist Patrick Dokter from the original tapes. The outtakes will also be available as a separate album, Churchical Chant Of The Iyabinghi.
Drumming Is A Language 1990-2011 comes out March 6, 2020.
