mp3 :: Teen Witch > I Don’t Mind

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Teen Witch is Tyler (formerly of Tempo No Tempo, presently of Grooms) and Caroline (of The Splinters). They have a new(ish) EP which fits one side of a cassette with so much rock and roll, they had to leave the other side blank for balance sake. The “smokey black” cassette is available via the Whoa Whoa label in a limited run of 150 cassettes (and naturally comes with a digital download). Listen.

Downloadable: I Don’t Mind (mp3)

The cassette art looks something like this:

You can purchase the cassette @ whoawhoa.bigcartel.com.

Hopefully, Teen Witch will be playing some shows in NYC at some point in the near future.

q and also a :: Tempo No Tempo

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Bay Area dubpunks Tempo No Tempo sent us these answers to our questions in the latest q and also a.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

a: The last song I (really) heard was The Galaxist (mp3) by Deerhoof…we were jamming really hard to the last four Deerhoof records on our Oregon tour. I had lost my copy of Friend Opportunity, so we spent a lot of time revisiting that record and Milk Man. We all love that band a lot.

q: What is your favorite food?

a: Mexican food. Easy. Specifically, taco trucks in Oakland.

q: What is your favorite band to see live?

a: Either the Dirty Projectors or LCD Soundsystem. It used to be The Juan MacLean, before their drummer Jerry Fuchs died. I think, actually, that’s the first time that the death of a musician I didn’t know personally really affected me. When I heard that he died, it really brought into focus how special the shows I had seen him play were. They were amazing.

Listen: Gimme Gimme Gimme (Daytrotter Session) (mp3) by Dirty Projectors

Watch: Losing My Edge @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 4/08/10 (youtube) by LCD Soundsystem

Watch: Give Me Every Little Thing (youtube) by The Juan MacLean

q: What is your favorite venue in NYC (if applicable)?

a: We love the Cake Shop, and Death By Audio. I’ve seen a lot of shows in NY, but Tempo No Tempo has only played a handful. The Cake Shop is just awesome because the staff is rad and the room is the perfect amount of tiny and dingy.

q: OK, President Obama appoints you as the first Secretary of Culture, to whom do you give your first grant?

a: Gotta be the Numero Group folks. They consistently release the most beautiful collections of rare tracks, documented and packaged brilliantly. They’re like a funky Alan Lomax.

Listen: The founders of Numero Group on Sound Opinions with Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot (sound opinions mp3)

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: Yeah, we put out a record on our own in October, Waking Heat. We wrote it in six months, after our keyboardist left for law school, and then recorded and mixed it in five days.

We’ve been having this crazy transformation, since the songs have finally settled in, where the parts are opening up and the dynamics and dialogue between our instruments are totally changing. It’s exciting, but also puts the album into perspective as this snapshot when all the songs were really fresh.

We want to make an EP and some videos soon…so stay tuned for the latest latest projects I guess.

…And here is one of the videos Tempo No Tempo said they wanted to make.

Here are a couple tracks off of Waking Heat.
