Thursday, January 13th, 2011

The Forms have a new EP called Derealization. As we previously reported, the EP features remixes made with some of the bands’ friends, including:

    Matt Berninger of The National,
Craig Wedren of Shudder To Think,
    Nat Baldwin of Dirty Projectors,
Daniel Hart of St. Vincent‘s band, and
Andrew Thiboldeaux of Pattern is Movement.

Threespheres and Ernest Jenning will be releasing the EP on February 15th along with a repressing of the band’s first EP, Icarus.

Additionally, we have word that the band will release an alternate version of Derealization on or around the week of release totally for free.

Here is the track featuring Matt Berninger of The National. Listen.

mp3 :: The Forms > Steady Hand (Feat. Andrew Thiboldeux)

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Vocalist/keyboardist Alex Tween and multi-instrumentalist Matt Walsh a/k/a The Forms have a new EP called Derealization. The project was spawned after the duo spent an afternoon listening to the vinyl of their self-titled album at different speeds. The decision was made on the spot to do a “remix” album. Once they started working on it, Tween and Walsh teamed up with a bunch of their friends to completely reconceptualized a number of their older songs from the bottom up.

Derealization was recorded at Walsh’s studio in Ridgewood with the help of producer Scott Solter. Also on the album are:

    Matt Berninger of The National,
Craig Wedren of Shudder To Think,
    Nat Baldwin of Dirty Projectors,
Daniel Hart of St. Vincent‘s band, and
Andrew Thiboldeaux of Pattern is Movement.

Thiboldeaux’s track recently hit the internet. Listen.

Downloadable: Steady Hand (Feat. Andrew Thiboldeux) (mp3)

A release date has been set. Threespheres and Ernest Jenning will be releasing the EP next year on February 15th. Reportedly, the band will also release an alternate version of Derealization on or around the week of release totally for free. More deets about that later.

Oh and here is the tracklisting:

  1. Fire to the Ground (Feat. Matt Berninger)
  2. Same Path Mantra
  3. Steady Hand (Feat. Andrew Thiboldeaux)
  4. Alpha Wave
  5. Finally (Feat. Craig Wedren)
  6. Derealization

q and also a :: The Forms

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

For the next q and also a, Alex Tween of The Forms sent us these here answers.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

a: bad romance (wiki) by lada gaga. i think that’s the song all of america has last heard.

q: What is your favorite food?

a: morningstar farms sausage patties. my freezer at any given point has a pile of boxes at least 5 high.

q: What is your favorite band to see live?

a: that’s a tossup between the national and dirty projectors. in general most concerts are pretty boring i think, except when you love 90%-100% of the songs. then it’s awesome.

Listen:
Fake Empire (mp3) by The National
Fucked for Life (mp3) by Dirty Projectors

q: What is your favorite venue in NYC (if applicable)?

a: i love bell house and music hall of williamsburg.

q: OK, President Obama appoints you as the first Secretary of Culture, to whom do you give your first grant?

a: i’d start with noah kalina, a really brilliant photographer based in brooklyn.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: a new EP called derealization will be out in the spring. it has lots of contributions from people in other local bands we really love. we built a studio in ridgewood, queens and recorded it there with scott solter, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.

Here are a couple tracks from The Forms‘ latest self-titled album.

Listen:
Knowledge In Hand (mp3)
Getting It Back (mp3)

And here are a couple tracks from their earlier album, Icarus.

Listen:
Stravinsky (mp3)
Sunday (mp3)

We will post something from derealization as soon as it is available.

UPDATE: Buke And Gass is working on a new album right now

UPDATE: I totally forgot about that EP of reworked The Forms songs that was announced last year. We heard there are a lot of awesome guests on it. Matt Berninger of little band known as The National is one name that was thrown around. I suppose the EP is being meticulously tweaked in the band’s recording studio. I assume the EP will be released this year.

Oh, and I’m sure no one will notice a new release from LCD Soundsystem.
