q and also a :: Geronimo!

Here are Geronimo!‘s answers in this next q and also a (maybe Kelly answered them).

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

a: I took this question to be one of two ways- the last song I actually did hear, or the last one that I “heard,” meaning the last one that really grabbed me. I’ll answer both ways.

The last song I actually did hear was “I Am a Real Machine” by A Severe Joy. We learned it in practice last night and sampled part of it on our new album. He’s a talented friend of ours and an inspiration to the band.

The last song that I remember “hearing” was by the band Ride. It’s a song called “Leave Them All Behind.” I saw it in a documentary about Creation Records. It’s like an 8 minute song with extended jam parts and really pretty harmonies. It reminded me a lot of what we were trying to do with Geronimo! for a while. Except they totally nail everything it in that song. I love listening to it and getting lost in the guitars.

q: What is your most common reaction to hearing your own music?

a: Criticism, unfortunately. I always hear something I want to do better. It usually takes a couple years until I can say “ah, I actually like that”

q: What is your favorite artist/band to see live?

a: Right now it’s Pile. I’ve seen them a few times and each time has been better. There isn’t a song they have that I think “oh, now’s a good time to go get another beer.” I want to hear them all.

q: What is your favorite venue (in NYC, if applicable)?

a: We’ve only played NYC three times. Of those three the favorite experience we had was Big Snow (RIP). Generally, any type of intimate rock venue is OK with us.

Ed. Note: a few google and youtube searches did not reveal footage of Geronimo! at Big Snow, so instead here’s some Speedy Ortiz. OK?

q: What piece(s) of culture are you really really excited about right now?

a: I’m currently in the throes of the final season of television show The Wire. I had a black hole left in me after Breaking Bad finished and The Wire plugged it up and then some. Sweet merciful crap it is a great show. I’m trying to finish it before we leave for tour so I don’t have to wait two weeks for closure.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?

a: Speaking of tour! Check out our Facebook page or bandcamp for the dates. We are putting out a new album, Cheap Trick, on Exploding in Sound. It’ll be out officially May 13. You can pick up a copy at our shows on tour or at our official release show in Chicago on May 23 at the Observatory.

You can preorder Cheap Trick @ thegeronimoband.bandcamp.com.
